Talk over the past week is about Arcady Gaydamak purchasing 51% of the Tiv Taam supermarket chain.  The chain, which is not kosher, had originally begun as stores for Russian Israelis but over time had broken into the secular Israeli market.  Mr. Gaydamak has said that all non-kosher food would be removed from the shelves and that stores would be closing for Shabbat.

The Boston Globe has a feature story about the influx of Jews and kosher food to Bethlehem, New Hampshire.  The local kosher grocery has made space on its shelves for kosher products and Joel Strulovic, a Hassid from New York is building a 33 room hotel that will cater to Jews and non-Jews alike.

Looks like kosher Subway restaurants are coming to Overland Park, Kansas and Baltimore.  The restaurants will be run along the same lines as the one in Cleveland, where parve cheese is served as opposed to the one in Brooklyn, which does not.  And according to Subway, this is not the last stop – 15 kosher restaurants are planned throughout the United States.
