Question: Every year, new non-edible kosher for Passover products arrive in stores. Have we gone too far, or are we simply being justifiably stringent in observing Pesach?

We have gone too far. Pesach kashrut laws are about what goes into your body. Nobody is going to eat shampoo or dishwashing liquid.

We have gone too far. At one time, everything kosher for Pesach was homemade, but today we have almost every marketable product made kosher for Pesach – even pizza. This is all a business. It’s unbelievable how much profit these companies make in a four-month period. Pesach has become too commercialized.

We have gone too far. Years ago we didn’t have the technology to make all this possible. I personally will not seek out kosher for Passover detergent and soaps – the problem, however, is that many today will, and they look down on those who don’t.

Ariella Notis, teacher

We are becoming more stringent. My policy is “better safe than sorry.” I will only use kosher for Pesach products. I also only use Jewish brands like Kedem, Hadar, etc. I don’t think this is all just business, as many claim.
