Question:  Is capital punishment “cruel and unusual”?

It depends on the case. If there is proof beyond reasonable doubt that an individual committed a brutal crime, then I support capital punishment by any means. However, with all the advances today in criminal investigations – particularly DNA analysis – cases have come to light where we incarcerated innocent people.

I support capital punishment – especially lethal injection, which I think is more humane than the electric chair. It may seem unethical and immoral to some, but the criminal in question is a danger to society. He/she consciously took someone else’s life and we cannot let that go in vain.

– Ahron Gutterman, physician

No. If someone is convicted of intentional murder, they deserve capital punishment. This will set an example for others who are thinking of committing crimes. In addition, a life sentence for killers is a waste of taxpayer money.

I don’t think methods like lethal injection or the electric chair cause suffering – they’re relatively quick and painless processes. If you do the crime you must face the consequences. It’s not like in other countries where one ruler decides a person’s fate; here a jury of one’s peers decides after long deliberation whether a person is guilty.
