When the train has departed the station,
Fresh of food and of saturation,
The journey ahead excites,
With all the could bes and the might’s,

See, the conductor paints a “could be”,
Portraying the potential that exists in me,
He yearns to cultivate it and for it to grow,
And for a while it does just so,

But, alas the journey jives ultimately arrive,
When the beginners excitement has died,
When all that remains is railroad track,
Touching the horizon, from front and back,

This is the time of fear,
The time where dread draws near,
The time that we must stay strong,
The place where it can all be right or wrong,

Remembering the former elation,
While keeping one eye on the destination,
Can take you out of the present,
That which stretches on to every second,

So you dream and you mourn,
Creating pasts empty and forlorn,
Looking forward to that brighter day,
Ignoring the path there in every way,

And when you finally arrive,
To where you’ve been heading your whole life,
You’ll slowly walk down the trains steps,
Weighed down by all your regrets,

Yes you finally made it,
Yes you are here,
But now all you have are the memories,
Of the times which you were barely there.
