The Lost River Gorge, located in the White Mountains town of North Woodstock is an adventure that combines the beauty of nature with the excitement of exploring! Since 1853, thousands of guests of all ages have marveled at its the beauty, mystery, and tranquility. The steep walled gorges and rugged boulder caves are still lit by lanterns and guided by boardwalks. For those of adventurous spirit, there are many caves to explore.
The river keeps you company along the ¾ mile journey. Even when it’s not visible, the river is never far away—you can hear it babbling over the rocks, just out of sight. Lost River is so-named because the brook draining from the south east part of Kinsman Notch disappears below the surface in the narrow, steep-walled glacial Gorge. The Gorge is partially filled with immense blocks of granite, through which the brook cascades along its subterranean course until it eventually emerges and joins the Pemigewasset River which flows south from Franconia Notch.
New Hampshire offers many different sports opportunities for all ages. From alpine slides, to biking, to Kayaking in the many rivers that flow through the state. There are also attractions in New Hampshire geared especially for children.
Story Land is an amusement park catered to children with storybook characters and scenes as the base for the rides and activities. The park is situated on 35 acres of hilly terrain and the rides and attractions are built into the natural features of the landscape.
Clark’s Trading Post offers visitors the best in family entertainment and good honest fun. It’s most popular attractions are the White Mountain Central Railroad which travels through an authentic covered bridge and into Wolfman’s territory and the well-known Bear Show—a truly original experience that includes bears swinging on swings, drinking from a bottle and many more interesting stints.
With its natural beauty and many attractions, New Hampshire is a wonderful option for a family vacation.
