As missiles fell this afternoon as far north as Zichron Ya’akov and following the rising tensions and ongoing preparations of the Israeli Home-Front Command, Haifa’s mayor Yona Yahav has instructed emergency teams today to refresh emergency procedures. Furthermore, he instructed to raise the level of alertness of the municipal war-time headquarters.

Yahav said: “We ask you to keep calm, don’t panic, and maintain your daily routine. Experience from the Second Lebanon War has taught us that the majority of the citizens turn to the municipality in times of emergency, so we must be ready for that moment if it comes. To keep up with the challenges that we might face in the near future we established the municipal HQ, so that the security forces can operate even under extreme conditions.”

“The new HQ, which we inaugurated a year ago, is part of the municipality’s very serious approach to operations during times of crisis. Haifa’s municipality is prepared on all levels, and thanks to that the city is praised time and again for its high security standards during all drills.”

Haifa’s HQ is outfitted for all defensive needs and aspects, as was defined by Israel’s Home-Front Command. The spot for its construction was carefully chosen to meet the highest standards, including all the necessary systems that are installed to make sure a crisis can be handled even under the worst conditions that can be forced upon it. The HQ building is an underground structure that stands in the harshest standards including attacks by unconventional weapons. It holds air conditioning and filtering systems that can withstand even the most severe chemical agents.

In light of the recent Home-Front Command assessments, Yona Yahav instructed to increase defensive readiness throughout the city while preparing medical services and increasing emergency readiness of the educational system
