Turkish Students Arrested for Nazi Salute at Polish Nazi Camp Site

Sunday, October 13th, 2013

Two students from Turkey were arrested in Poland for using a Nazi salute on a group of Israeli students visiting the Majdanek concentration camp.

The students made the Nazi salute and said “Heil Hitler” when they met a group of students from Israel according to Turkey’s Today’s Zaman newspaper. The Israeli group filed an official complaint, leading to the detention of the two Turkish students.

The students said that the action was a joke, but if they are found guilty of the charges of promoting fascist propaganda, they could face up to three years in prison.

Greek Soccer Player Attacked for Nazi Salute (video)

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Soccer team AEK Athens player Giorgos Katidis has been under intense attacks by politicians, fellow soccer players, and—most important—the fans, after giving the Nazi salute after scoring a goal in a league game.

From the video of the game, it is clear that the midfielder Katidis raised his right arm in the “Heil Hitler” salute we all know from countless WW2 movies, after scoring the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute of a game against the Veria team on Saturday.

In the screen shot above, Katidis’ Brazilian-born teammate Roger Guerreiro is looking at him with a mix of astonishment and repulsion.

And the video below shows that while his ecstatic teammates were rushing to hug him in admiration, Katidis tried hard to keep up his saluting arm, meaning this was not just an unintentional gesture. This was a Nazi salute par excellence.

Nevertheless, the 20-year-old Katidis is pleading ignorance, insisting—including, of course, on his Twitter account—that he is, actually, anti-fascist.

And Ewald Lienen, AEK’s German coach, told the press his lad is innocent, and doesn’t have an “idea about politics” in his goal scoring head.

Since its foundation 1980, The People’s Association – Golden Dawn, or, simply Golden Dawn, has been a right-wing extremist political organization, led by Nikolaos Michaloliakos. Scholars and the media describe it as neo-Nazi and fascist, although the group rejects these labels, saying it follows the political ideology of Ioannis Metaxas, Greece’s prime minister in the 1930s, who preached national unity through the abolition of all political parties. But the Golden Dawn party uses of Nazi-looking symbols, and praises German Nazism.

Associating with Jewish Community Keeps Grave Vandal Out of Jail

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

A New Zealand man who admitted to desecrating Jewish graves with anti-Semitic graffiti at a historic cemetery in Auckland avoided prison because he has established bonds with the Jewish community.

Robert Moulden, 19, was sentenced by Judge Russell Collins in Auckland District Court Wednesday to 320 hours of community service work. He was also ordered to pay about $2,500 in reparations.

Moulden pleaded guilty to a charge of willful damage in November for vandalizing more than a dozen headstones in the Jewish quarter of the SymondsStCemetery with swastikas, the numbers 88 – code for “Heil Hitler,” and anti-Israeli slogans.

Another man, also accused of desecrating the cemetery, is fighting the charges.

The Jewish community offered restorative justice with Moulden. One family invited him for Shabbat dinner, and others offered financial assistance with his education.

“To your credit, you were willing to engage with the Jewish community and a more extraordinary outcome is the forgiving nature of the members of the Jewish community,” Judge Collins said.

“Their forgiveness of you needs to be admired considering how wounding and distressing your actions were.”

Auckland Council has spent about $10,000 on trying to repair the vandalism, but some of the vandalism is irreparable, according to local media, with the damage estimated to cost some $23,000.

Are You Allowed to Cry ‘Heil Hitler’ in a Crowded City Hall?

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Aida Ahmad and Kate Linthicum of the Los Angeles Times report that “tempers flared” at the Los Angeles City Hall on Tuesday when a councilman said he was tempted to “clock” a speaker who called out “Heil Hitler” during a public comment period.

It started when Michael Carreon, a resident of Los Angeles’ 14th council district, objected to the rules of decorum at a City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Carreon directed his comments to a few council members who, apparently, weren’t paying attention to him, and so Councilman Tom LaBonge, who was chairing the meeting, stopped him. LaBonge instructed Carreon not to address his comments to specific members, as per city rules.

Carreon, a regular at these meetings, was livid.

“The city’s going to hell in a handbasket, and you’re going to sit up there and dictate?” he said. “I’m upset, so I guess I’ll just salute you.” He raised one hand in the air in a Nazi salute, and shouted: “Heil Hitler.”

That’s when Councilman Paul Koretz, who is Jewish, stood up from his seat and said: “That’s a highly offensive thing, I’m very tempted to go over there and clock ‘im.”

You’d expect the offending Heil shouter would be carried out by security guards at that point, but a City attorney who was present at the meeting said his comments weren’t grounds for eviction.

At another point Tuesday, Matt Dowd, another frequent City Hall critic, used the F word when addressing the assembly. Soon after, the meeting was adjourned.

Conclusion: You can cry ‘Heil Hitler’ in a crowded LA City Hall, but say one F word and everybody runs home.
