Israel Demolishes 20 Illegal Arab Structures in Jerusalem and in Outskirts of Capital

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

By Jonathan Benedek/TPS Jerusalem (TPS) – The Israeli National Planning and Construction Enforcement Unit demolished 20 illegal Arab structures in Jerusalem and its surrounding areas overnight in what is being described as the largest enforcement operation of planning and construction ordinances in the last 20 years.

“The national unit will continue to enforce the law and exercise its responsibilities regarding any violation of planning and building laws,” the unit said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

Due to the wide scope of the operation, the national unit called in reinforcements from other localities throughout Israel to help the Jerusalem team carry out the demolitions.

A total of 14 of the 20 illegal structures were located in the village of Kalandia next to the Atarot Industrial Zone in northern Jerusalem. Some of these structures were built in a zone where construction is illegal due to the area’s proximity to the security fence.

The 14 structures were demolished in coordination with the Border Police from the nearby Binyamin region, who managed to complete the operation in the face of rioting and blockades by local residents.

Another six illegal structures were demolished in eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem in coordination with the Jerusalem municipality. As was the case with the 14 illegal structures in Kalandia, none of the six structures had yet been occupied.

The Israeli NGO Regavim (The National Land Protection Trust), which has campaigned against illegal Arab construction throughout Judea and Samaria, expressed praise for this morning’s demolition of the 20 illegal structures.

“The Israeli public has been dismayed for many years that the widespread illegal construction in the Arab sector is a fait accompli,” the organization wrote in a statement. “The Israeli government proved to itself overnight that the expression ‘rule of law’ is not just an empty cliché and that it can restore sovereignty to every corner of the State of Israel.”

The Regavim statement referred in particular to The Planning and Construction Law of 1965, which delineates a legalization process for construction to be determined by district commissions and the National Board for Planning and Construction.

“The enforcement operation last night is an important first step on the long road to putting the Planning and Construction Law back in its rightful place,” the statement added.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had announced on Sunday at the weekly cabinet meeting that the government would increase the enforcement of legal planning and construction.

“Today, the cabinet will approve the law to increase and strengthen enforcement in the field of planning and construction,” said Netanyahu.

“We are working to create a reality of one state with one law; law and order for everyone, without exception,” Netanyahu asserted.

PA Arab Indicted for Shooting at Israeli Forces and Arms Dealing

Monday, May 9th, 2016

By Michael Bachner/TPS

Jerusalem (TPS) – Husam Ashhab, a 19-year-old Palestinian Authority resident of Qalandiya, has been indicted at the Jerusalem District Court for buying and selling weapons and arms, some of which were used to commit terror attacks.

According to the indictment, Ashhab sold a Carl Gustav rifle in March, 2016 to Abed Harub, who used it the following day to carry out a shooting attack in Jerusalem. Harub, together with another terrorist, first shot at people at a bus stop at the Ramot Junction and then drove towards the Old City where they shot at passing cars before being shot and killed by police. One Israeli was critically wounded during the attack.

Ashhab also committed several shooting attacks by himself, the indictment added. He shot at Israeli security forces who came to demolish a terrorist’s home in Qalandiya in November, 2015. He took a rifle he had hidden in a neighborhood near his home and fired five shots at military vehicles. He also shot at an IDF pillbox in Qalandiya one week later.

The Jerusalem prosecutor is requesting to have Ashhab detained until the end of court proceedings against him.

Security Guards Who Killed Brother and Sister Terrorists in Qalandiya to Be Interrogated with a Warning

Thursday, May 5th, 2016

Police is going to interrogate with a warning the security guards who shot dead an Arab brother and sister duo at the Qalandiya check post outside Jerusalem on April 27, Israeli media reported Thursday. The investigation has been assigned to the central police unit in Judea and Samaria. The courts have imposed a gag order on the story.

The two Arabs, a pregnant woman, 23, and her brother, 16, were on their way to Jerusalem to receive medical treatment for the sister, having obtain the necessary permit from the Israeli authorities. According to police reports at the time, the sister approached the cops and the security guards at the check point with a knife drawn in her hand, tossed the knife at them and was shot dead. Next her brother was shot and killed as well, and police said he, too, was carrying a knife and a penknife.

But the dead terrorists’ family members, as well as Arab eyewitnesses, are insisting the two were not in possession of knives, and were shot simply because they failed to use the pedestrian walkway and moved down the vehicle lane instead, raising the security force’s suspicion. The family is demanding the release of the check post’s CCTV tapes to prove they are right.

A preliminary examination of the case initially found that police personnel had acted properly and in accordance with the police rules of engagement, and it was the security guards, who are under police personnel supervision, who opened fire at the two terrorists. According to the Arab version, the sister was riddled with ten bullets and her brother was shot when he had rushed to her side.

According to the police version, the security guards indeed were the shooters, but used only three bullets, and only after warning shots in the air.

A Blockade on Ramallah [photos]

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

For reasons unknown, armed and masked Arab terrorists blocked the exit from Ramallah/Kalandia to Jerusalem today.

Those are some very impressive-looking weapons the terrorists are holding, and so close to Jerusalem too.

Ramallah is under control of the Palestinian Authority… or maybe not.
