4 Terror Attacks in 12 Hrs – Jerusalem Light Rail to Avoid Shuafat

Monday, August 25th, 2014

Security officials have decided enough is enough: four terror attacks on the Jerusalem Light Rail in 12 hours has ended the route through the capital’s northern neighborhood of Shuafat, at least for now.

Jerusalem Arab terrorists hurled firebombs and rocks at the Jerusalem Light Rail in two separate attacks in less than an hour on Monday night as the train passed through the capital’s Arab neighborhood of Shuafat. Two other attacks occurred earlier in the day.

Passengers instinctively ducked, and mothers with babies threw themselves down on to the floor of the train, some of them bursting into tears, according to witnesses quoted by the Hebrew-language 0404 website.

Miraculously, no one on the train was physically injured, although passengers were traumatized and the train itself was damaged in each of the attacks.

One of the passengers in the second attack of the day told 0404, “Suddenly the train was hit by two flaming firebombs… there was great panic and mothers laid down with their babies on the floor of the train. It is absolutely surreal, what we are going through here. Just unbelievable.”

The website noted that three masked Arab terrorists  hurled rocks at another Light Rail train during the first attack of the day.

Depending on size, the CityPass firm that runs the Light Rail must pay NIS 3,000 to NIS 5,000 to replace each window smashed by terrorists hurling rocks and firebombs at the train. Insurance does not cover the cost of replacing equipment damaged in terrorist attacks.

Arab rioters in Shuafat completely destroyed the infrastructure three Jerusalem Light Rail stations in the area at the start of Operation Protective Edge, preventing the train from passing through the neighborhood for a number of days. As it did then, the line will operate — at least temporarily — between Mount Herzl and Ammunition Hill, with the route ending at Ammunition Hill.

The northern Jerusalem neighborhoods of Shuafat, Beit Hanina, Pisgat Ze’ev and Neve Yaakov will thus be deprived of service due to Arab terrorism in Shuafat.  Jews live in at least two of the four neighborhoods, with a Jewish section recently having started in a third neighborhood as well.

IDF Forces Arrest Terror Fugitives in Judea, Samaria

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

IDF soldiers fought their way through a haze of gunfire and firebombs (Molotov cocktails) to arrest suspected terrorists overnight in Samaria.

The operation took place in the Palestinian Authority-controlled “refugee camp” of Jenin, which has long since morphed into a full-fledged town located near a number of Jewish communities.

No one was injured in the shootout. A collection of bombs, knives and ammunition was picked up in the raid – along with a known Hamas terrorist, who was arrested on the spot.

Seven other suspected PA Arab terrorists were arrested elsewhere in Samaria and Judea as well, according to military sources.

Earlier Monday evening, an Israel Police officer was wounded after being hit by a hail of rocks hurled by PA Arabs in Jerusalem.

No one was arrested at the scene, according to a report broadcast on Israel public radio.

Arab Terror Attack Foiled by Israel Police

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

Four Palestinian Authority Arabs were caught red-handed this week with homemade explosives and firebombs (Molotov cocktails).

The weapons were discovered during a body search of the would-be terrorists after they were stopped at the Tapuach Junction in Samaria.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday (on the minor Jewish holiday of Pesach sheni) and taken for questioning.

Chabad Center in Ukraine Firebombed

For the first time since the recent uprising in Ukraine began, the violence has reached the Jewish community. On Monday night, Molotov cocktails were lobbed at the newly-built synagogue and Jewish community center of Zaporozhye, in southeastern Ukraine.

The masked perpetrators managed to leave the premises without being apprehended by the community center’s security personnel; however, they were caught on camera.

The community center, which was sponsored by local Jewish businessman Israel Debretzky, was dedicated a little more than two years ago amid great pomp and celebration. It appears that the firebombs struck exterior stone walls; the damage was almost entirely cosmetic.

Rabbi Nachum Ehrentrau

Chabad Rabbi Nachum Ehrentrau, who also serves as chief rabbi of the city and the surrounding region, says the center is frequented by dozens of local Jewish people on a daily basis, with up to 800 congregants attending High Holiday services.

At the time of the attack, the building had been closed for the night, although he says that Chabad Rabbi Michael Oishie had left just 20 minutes beforehand.

The police responded immediately. But the rabbi says that—although they have been helpful and shown a willingness to assist the community—they are occupied with the main chaos that has erupted in the city, which will hamper their ability to dedicate significant resources to investigate what happened to the Jewish community center.

According to the Ehrentrau, the center was well-protected.

“Our synagogue is surrounded by a barrier, the doors are all automatic, and we have round-the-clock security staff,” he says. “In these uncertain times, we are, of course, even more cautious, doing all we can to ensure the safety of the community center and its visitors.”

The rabbi describes the atmosphere in his city as one of confusion. “On one hand, there are those who are urging people to evacuate. On the other hand, there are those who are minimizing the risks,” he explains. “It is important to remember that the opposition has been in the government for four year, and has kept very good relations with Jewish people and the Jewish community. Yet in a time of chaos and uncertainty, we must keep a low profile and avoid unnecessary friction.”

When asked what he plans to do, his answer is clear. “Our job is to promote Torah and to help bring Jews back to their roots. We aren’t looking to get entangled in politics.”

He did, however, express his hope that the community would receive protection for its schools, synagogues, charitable organizations and early-childhood centers in the days ahead.

Shin Bet and IDF Arrest Hamas ‘Highway Rock-Throwing’ Gang

Monday, February 24th, 2014

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), soldiers and police have arrested 15 Hamas members in the past several weeks on suspicion of carrying out rock-throwing and Molotov cocktail attacks on Highway 443, which connects Samaria, Jerusalem, the city of Modi’in and Ben Gurion Airport.

Several of those arrested are returnees to terror, having previously been jailed for attacks against Jews. Military official said there is not only a growing trend of the “revolving door terrorists” phenomena, but that the terrorist also are improving their methods and involvement.

Israel previously has received hundreds of terrorists who signed a piece of paper promising they would behave nicely and would not return to terror.

Since then, the released prisoners who returned to their favorite occupation of terror have killed more than 120 Jews the past several years.

Arabs Block Highway South of Gush Etzion

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

Palestinian Authority Arabs from the village of Al Aroob rioted and blocked the only road connecting Gush Etzion with Kiryat Arba-Hevron Thursday night and then attacked IDF soldiers with firebombs and rocks before they were dispersed with tear gas and rubber bullets.

None of the soldiers were injured, an IDF spokeswoman told The Jewish Press, but she could not confirm a report from Arab sources that the soldiers wounded one protester with a live bullet in the leg. Other rioters reportedly were hit by rubber bullets.

Al Aroob is a frequent spot villagers use to attack passing Israeli motorists with rocks, foreign objects and firebombs.

Abbas Scorecard on Stopping Terror: 5,700 Attempts to Kill in 2013

Sunday, September 8th, 2013

The resumption of “peace talks’ between the Palestinian Authority and Israel in July came one month after 660 rock and firebomb attacks in June ini Judea and Samaria, according to figures compiled by the “Hatzalah’ Judea and Samaria Emergency teams.

In the first six months of 2013, Hatzalah recorded 5,635 attempts to injure and murder Jews, including 611 Molotov cocktail attacks, eight shootings, three stabbings and 5,144 rock-throwing attacks that are intended to force drivers into fatal accidents, such as the one that killed American Israel Asher Palmer and his two-year-old son two years ago.

The statistics do not include terrorists’ blockage of roads and arson. At least 180 people were wounded from January through June, including 10 in June, and many of them still suffer from trauma and refuse to travel anywhere except in buses that have extra-thick plastic windows to protect it from rock attacks.

The terrorists attacks are seldom reported in most international and Israeli media because they are less dramatic and less “successful” than large-scale attacks carried out by an armed group.

Reporting rock-throwing as a terrorist attack also would go against the inherent urge of foreign media to promote the “peace agenda” and to focus on Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s statements that he rejects terror.

However, Abbas talks in code.

After he was chosen as Prime Minister in 2003, before the death of chairman Yasser Arafat whom he later succeeded, Abbas stated, “We reject terrorism from any party and in all forms.”

Earlier this year, a decade later, President Barack Obama told Israel “you do have a true partner in President Abbas… [with] a track record to prove it.” And Abbas told a Russian interviewer, “As far as I am concerned, there is no difference between our policies and those of Hamas. So why are they labeled as terrorists? In my opinion, [the EU] can remove Hamas [from the list], why not?”

Abbas told the German Die Zeit newspaper in 2012, “We will never return to the armed struggle! Never! There will be only non-violent resistance to the occupation.”

The Hatzalah record of attempted murder of Jews in Judea and Samaria as well as in Jerusalem shows that either Abbas has failed to stop terror or defines rock-throwing and firebomb attacks, along with stabbings and shootings, as “non-violent resistance.”

One person has been killed this year as a result of a terrorist stabbing attack in Samaria, and 171 suffered injuries, almost half of them civilians.

In June alone, when the Obama administration was working feverishly to create an atmosphere for the resumption of direct talks between Israel and Palestinian Authority negotiators, 10 people were wounded, including a policeman and IDF officer who was hit in the jaw by a rock, the second time in a month he had been struck. One of those wounded was an eight-year-old who was struck by a rock.

The Obama administration has frequently credited Abbas for stopping terror but is wrong on two counts. One, terror is alive and well, even if its victims are not.

Two, as The Jewish Press has previously reported here and here, the IDF has been the main reason there are not more terrorists running free.

The IDF and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) in the past two months have busted several Hamas terrorist gangs while foiling countless other there terrorist attacks.

In May, security forces arrested a gang of “The Hazit HaAmamit-National Front” from Hevron and Shechem that was under the direction of Hezbollah.

They also broke up a terror infrastructure of the military arm of Hamas in the Hevron region, which was operating establish a regional command center to kidnap soldiers.

The IDF also arrested a terrorist who was freed in the exchange two years ago of 1,000 terrorists for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit.
