Israel’s ‘Green Rock’ Moves Against Missiles

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

Israel has just received its newest defense against the Palestinian Authority’s attacks on the western Negev — or anywhere in the country, for that matter.

The new system arrived in IDF hands on Wednesday — the same morning the PA unity government launched another rocket attack from Gaza on southern Israel. The Qassam exploded at the entrance to a kibbutz, about 300 meters from a private home. No one was physically injured, but several people were shaken up.

With the ‘Green Rock’ mobile autonomous tactical counter Rocket, Artillery & Mortar (C-RAM) system, perhaps such attacks will be neutralized in the near future.

The system, to be known to the IDF as ‘Wind Shield,’ was produced by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)’s ELTA subsidiary. It is installed on a moving vehicle (read: armored car, truck, all-terrain vehicle or whatever have you), and off you go.

It includes a “phased-array doppler radar” which detects the originating launching point of ballistic munitions such as rockets, artillery and mortars, and tracks their trajectories. In addition, it can intercept the fire before it reaches the target. The system can also be used to detect low-flying airborne targets such as UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), gliders and hovering platforms.

The system will be on display at the Eurostatory exhibition to be held June 16-20 in Paris.

US Continues ‘Peace Process’ with Arabs

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

The United States is continuing its efforts on a Middle East ‘peace process,’ with another meeting scheduled today in Washington.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is set to meet with Palestinian Authority government official Assam al-Ahmad, who represents the Fatah faction, according to a report published in the A-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Al-Ahmad heads the “reconciliation’ division of the new Palestinian Authority unity government, according to the report.

Netanyahu: European Position on Hamas, PA Unity is ‘Strange’

Monday, June 2nd, 2014

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu slammed European Union support for the Palestinian Authority unity deal between Fatah and the Hamas terror organization on Monday.

Netanyahu pointed out the bizarre inconsistency between the European position on the PA reconciliation deal that is allegedly to result in a unity government between the Fatah and Hamas terror faction – and its clear condemnation of the recent deadly terror attack on the Jewish Museum in Brussels.

He told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday he finds it “strange that European governments who strongly condemn the shooting attacks in Brussels, at the same time speak kindly of the unity agreement with Hamas, a terrorist organization that carries out and praises such attacks.”

The prime minister pointed out that the attack which took the lives of four people little more than a week ago was a sign that radical Islamic terrorism is “rearing its head in Europe.”

Leftist Meretz leader MK Zehava Gal-On, however, claimed “The unity between Hamas and Fatah is essential.” She contended the deal would transform PA Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas “into the president of all Palestinians . . . on the condition that the new government will recognize the State of Israel, recognize previous agreements and stop violence and terrorism.”

Since the Hamas charter is entirely based on its vow to erase the State of Israel and banish every Israeli Jew from the Land through violent “resistance,” it is not clear why Gal-On should believe unity with Hamas would facilitate peace.
