Syrian Forces Renew Attack on Hama, Homs

According to rebel forces, Syrian government  forces launched an offensive on the city of Hama early Wednesday, targetting residential neighborhoods from armored vehicles and mobile anti-aircraft guns.

The Syrian military also shelled Sunni Muslim neighborhoods in Homs, marking the 13th day of bombardment of what has been the core of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

According to witnesses, an explosion blew up a major oil pipeline near a refinery in Homs, and a large plume of smoke rose to the sky. It is highly likely that the blast was caused by government troops’ shelling.

Video: Syrian Rebel Officer Begs Israel to Intervene

Deputy Minister for Development of the Negev and the Galilee Ayub Kara appeared on Israel’s Knesset channel and spoke over the phone with defecting Syrian Army officer Abu Bilal, who urged Israel to support the Syrian populace against President Bashar al-Assad’s terror.

Report: Russia to Sell Syria Fighter Jets

The Russian daily Kommersant reported Monday that Russia has signed a contract to sell fighter jets to Syria, in an attempt to bolster President Bashar al-Assad’s embattled regime.

The report stated that 36 Yak-130 aircraft would be delivered to Syria for a price tag of $550 million.

Iran Offers, Muslim Brotherhood Rejects Place in Assad Government

The Syrian “Muslim Brotherhood” said that Iran offered them a significant role in the Syrian government, in exchange for its support of  President Bashar al-Assad’s retention as President.

The deputy chief of the group, Mohamed Farouk Tayfur, said in an interview with an Arabic newspaper that the offer was made three months ago, and reportedly included four ministries in the Syrian government.

The Muslim Brotherhood said it rejected the offer because it is committed to Assad’s downfall.
