Iran Unveils New Self-Defense Radar, Missile System

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

Iran has unveiled a new ‘self-defense’ radar and missile system. The Talash-3, or Endeavor-3, allegedly has a range of about 200 kilometers.

It was successfully test fired recently, according to Iranian Air Defense chief General Farzad Esmaili.

“Talash is a mid-range and high-altitude air defense system used to confront the flying targets, including fighter jets and bombers, and is also capable of destroying different helicopters and drones,” he said.

“Talash defense system was designed and built to detect and intercept the targets of Sayyad (Hunter) 2 missile (the country’s latest home-made missile system with high precision, range and destruction power) to protect the country’s vital and sensitive points against surprise air threats of hi-tech combat fighters,” he added.

The missile will enable Iran to “shoot down any hostile target,” he said in a speech broadcast on state television Tuesday.

Also inaugurated were two radar systems, the Kayhan, reportedly capable of detecting cruise missiles and drones, and the Arash-2, which was said to detect miniature drones at a distance of 93 miles, or 150 kilometers.

Iran has already developed at least one ballistic missile capable of reaching Israel and U.S. bases in the Middle East — the Shahab-3 missile.

US Likes New Israel Radar That Detects Mortar Fire

Sunday, April 28th, 2013

Rada, an Israeli company, is gearing up for production of its new tactical radar that the U.S. Army and the IDF may use to pinpoint the source of mortar fire and rocket fire.

Rada has successfully tested its Multi-mission Hemispheric Radar (MHR), the independent Israel Defense website reported.

The U.S. Army asked Rada to carry out the test in the Negev last November, and the radar identified a mortar and a rocket, allowing rapid identification of the source, which then could be fired on immediately.

The radar tracks the trajectory of the fire and can locate the source of enemy fire and ground incursions.
