Beresheet 2 – this time with two landers intended to go to the lunar surface -- is expected to launch in 2025.

Israeli chickpea seeds were among the supplies and equipment sent to the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday for a series of experiments aimed at controlling the growth of crops via technology.

Beresheet 2 is scheduled to be launched into space sometime towards the end of 2024.

Beresheet 2 mission calls for the breaking of global records in space history, including a double landing on the Moon in a single mission by two of the smallest landing craft ever launched into space.

“The study of these impacts is giving us new insights into how the lunar regolith (soil) evolves over time.”

If the sequence of events following the activation command had not occurred, the spacecraft would have landed safely.

The maneuver, which was performed at 7:40 pm Israel time, lowered the spacecraft’s altitude in preparation for its landing tomorrow.

According to IAI and SpaceIL, "the spacecraft is now in an elliptical orbit at an altitude of 211 km to 467 km from the moon."

Beresheet took photos of the far side of the moon as it continues its orbit.

“After a challenging journey, we made tonight another Israeli record and became the seventh nation to orbit the moon."

During the maneuver, Beresheet's main engine was activated for 60 seconds.

Also seen is the plaque installed on the spacecraft, with the Israeli flag and the inscriptions "Am Yisrael Chai" and "Small Country, Big Dreams."

The next maneuver is planned in another week.

The Israeli 'Beresheet' spacecraft has been added to NASA's ‘Eyes on the Solar System’ simulator, which simulates a view of the solar system.
