John Liu’s Deputy Simcha Felder Quitting to Run for State Senate

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Deputy Controller Simcha Felder told Hamodia that he’s running for State Senate on the Democratic line in the new Orthodox Jewish-majority district in Brooklyn. He had also been wooed by the Republican party.

Felder is abandoning the city Controller John Liu, whose campaign finances are under federal investigation.

In February, Liu lost the services of his other second in command, Eric Eve.

“I look forward, God willing, to the opportunity to once again serve the community and the people of New York State,” Felder told Hamodia.

Iran Divestment

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

We applaud the passage by the New York State Legislature of the Iran Divestment Act of 2012. The measure would prohibit state and local governments from conducting business with companies that invest in Iran’s energy sector.

As explained by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a strong supporter of the law,

Companies that invest in Iran’s energy sector only provide greater resources to advance further acts of terror. This vital legislation will bar governments in New York from doing business with any of these companies.

Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who shepherded the bill through the State Senate, commended “Speaker Silver for taking the lead on this effort and passing it in the Assembly.”

We also note the leadership of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli on the issue.
