Will BDS Movement Boycott Whirlpool over Ties with SodaStream?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

KitchenAid, a subsidiary of the giant Whirlpool appliance conglomerate, has announced it is working with the Boycott Israel-targeted SodaStream company by introducing its own countertop soda maker using SodaStream’s flavors.

That should make the BDS Movement bubble over with anger at KitchenAid’s hooking up with a company that exploits Palestinian Authority worked by employing them at five times the wages they could be making if they worked for their brethren.

SodaStream’s sin, in the eyes of the Boycott Israel squad, is operating a factory in the forbidden Occupied West Bank, otherwise known as the Mishor Adumim industrial area of the city of Maaleh Adumim, Israel.

SodaStream has become more of a household name thanks to its commercials that have run for two consecutive years during the Super Bowl break and more recently because of its hiring actress Scarlett Johansson as its world ambassador. Thanks to the Boycott Israel’s attempt to place an international embargo on SodaStream as well as Scarlett’s films, SodaStream won even more publicity.

The BDS crowd went after the lady for the alleged hypocrisy of promoting both SodaStream and Oxfam, one of the lovers of anti-Israel campaigns. Scarlett came out swinging for SodaStream and ditched Oxfam, ignoring charges that she did so only for the money, which she hardly is lacking. It never crossed the minds of the Israel haters that maybe, just maybe, she acted out of principle and not principal.

One way or the other, KitchenAid now has stepped up to the plate. Like any good corporation, it is interested in principal and certainly took into account that by teaming up with SodaStream it and its parent company Whirlpool could face the same boycott campaign that tried to bring SodaStream to its knees.

BDS took credit for the recent sharp drop in SodaStream’s stock, without noting that the shares sank because of a warning that earnings would not be up to snuff last quarter. Boycott Israel did not take the credit for the recent rise in the price of SodaStream shares after the actual earnings weren’t so bad after all.

So let’s see the BDS Movement do without KitchenAid mixers and blenders and announce a worldwide boycott on Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers until KitchenAid stops helping SodaStream markets its homemade sodas.

And coffee makers.

The Boycott Israel folks can get also get rid of their Maytag washing machines, their driers, Whirlpool BBQ grills, microwave ovens and trash compactors.

Whirlpool is a corporate giant, with nearly $19 billion sales last year, more than 35 times more than SodaStream’s revenues, so get going, BDS.

Whirlpool’s subsidiary KitchenAid was all bubbly over the new arrangement with SodaStream. “We are excited to expand our KitchenAid family of products and enter the growing category of home carbonation,” said David Elliott, general manager of KitchenAid small appliances. “Working with SodaStream brings together their best-in-class technology with our stylish design signature to offer a premium product for our consumers worldwide.

Daniel Birnbaum, CEO of SodaStream, chimed in and said, “KitchenAid is an iconic, global brand and we welcome them to the SodaStream revolution. Our unique platform will enable KitchenAid to provide its large and loyal consumer base with the many benefits of home carbonation. We look forward to leveraging the combined strengths of our two brands to advance the category and reach an even broader global audience.”

Pro-Israeli Group Invites Johansson to ‘See for Herself’

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

The nationalist Legal Grounds organization in Israeli has applauded actress Scarlett Johansson for standing up for Israeli-based SodaStream and invited her to Israel as their guest “to see for herself the benefits that SodaStream and other Israeli companies based in Judea and Samaria provide to people of all religions and ethnicities.”

SodaStream recently signed on Johansson as its world ambassador, including an appearance in a commercial to be telecast during the Super Bowl game on Sunday. The company also is on the Boycott Israel target list because one of its 20 factories in the world is located east of Jerusalem, in the Judean Desert that the Palestinian Authority claims is its territory.

Johansson issued a statement earlier this week that SodaStream’s policy of hiring Palestinian Authority workers and giving them equal opportunity and benefits with Jews represents the road to peace.

She stated that she supports “neighbors working alongside each other, receiving equal pay, equal benefits and equal rights. That is what is happening in their Ma’alah Adumim factory every working day.” The factory is located in the city’s Mishor Adumim industrial park.

“We would like to recognize Scarlett Johansson for standing up to the anti-Israel BDS movement,” said the Legal Grounds Committee. At a time when there are those who seek to force their agenda through threats of boycotts and increased isolation, it is refreshing to see a public figure who does not just accept the false narrative of ‘illegal settlements’ and ‘occupation’ but understands the subtleties of the issues.”

“We encouraged our followers on Facebook to support Scarlett,” it added. We also applaud SodaStream for serving as such a fine example of the practical application of our Legal Grounds in Judea and Samaria.”

View the Johansson-SodaStream Ad Fox Won’t Let You See Super Sunday

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

What sin did the ad experts commit this year that prompted Fox News to can SodaStream’s scheduled commercial to be aired on Fox News during the Super Bowl Sunday?

Last year, CBS canned the commercial that showed thousands of Pepsi and Coke bottles bursting. The ad mocked the soda companies for hurting the environment while SodaStream customers can make their own soda drinks at home.

This year, the planned commercial did not show any disparaging pictures of those environmentally unfriendly bottles.

Instead, it stars Scarlett Johansson, SodaStream’s new ambassador to promote its machines.

The half-minute commercial was fine, until Johansson uttered the four naughty words, “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.”

“No way,” cried Fox. How dare upstart SodaStream make fun of the manufacturers of two of America’s favorite unhealthy drinks.

SodaStream’s ad agency came up with another version of the commercial, without those four awful words.

UPDATED: Fox News Rejects SodaStream’s Super Bowl Ad (Video)

Monday, January 27th, 2014

See the update at the end of the article.

Fox News has followed the lead of CBS last year and has rejected a scheduled SodaStream ad that promotes its product at the expense of Coca Cola and Pepsi.

The Israel-based company has won headlines the past couple of weeks by Scarlett Johansson’s staring down the Boycott Israel movement and maintaining that SodaStream, which has a factory in Judea, otherwise known as part of the West Bank, actually promotes peace by hiring Palestinian Authority Arabs and treating them on par with its Jewish workers. The commercial that was canned before it could be aired during the Supper Bowl last year mocked Coca Cola and Pepsi for hurting the environment with its plastic bottles. SodaStream machines make the fizz in a machine in the home or office.

This year, Fox News is broadcasting the Super Bowl, and it is upset by the proposed commercial in which Johansson says, “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.” Fox insists that the ad not name the big guys, which have a combined sales of $115 billion a year compared with only $562 million for SodaStream. The proposed SodaStream commercial was designed under the leadership of Alex Bogusky, one of the big shots in the world of advertising. He told USA Today, he is thoroughly upset “that Fox protects its big advertisers to the detriment of the environment and consumers.”

SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum told the newspaper, “If I could get my money back, I’d be happy to be out of that deal.” The reason might be that SodaStream has won so much free publicity that it may not be worth paying Fox News to air a commercial, especially if it cannot knock Coke and Pepsi. Below is a trailer for the commercial.

Update: JewishPress.com received the following update from SodaStream: A modified version of the ad is now running, with the phrase “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi” having been replaced with different words.

Scarlett Johansson’s Silence Enrages ‘Boycott SodaStream’ Campaign

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

Scarlett Johansson’s agreement to promote Israel-based SodaStream in a Super Bowl ad next month has driven the BDS movement up the wall and attracted attention to the economic opportunities that the company has given to Palestinian Authority Arabs working at its factory in a “settlement” east of Jerusalem.

Johansson is far from a raging nationalist. She is, in fact, an Oxfam ambassador, which makes the BDS folks’ blood boil over.

SodaStream has 20 factories all over the world. One of them is located in Mishor Adumim, an industrial area east of the city of Ma’aleh Adumim that is home to nearly 50,000 “settlers” whom the lefties want to expel on behalf of people who call it home even though they never have lived there.

SodaStream’s American-born CEO Daniel Birnbaum takes pride that the Mishor Adumim factory employs hundreds of Palestinian Authority Arabs who work and eat alongside Jews, with the same pay, benefits and privileges.

Last year, when Birnbaum attended a government event joined by one of his Arab staff, he demanded that security personnel put him through the same thorough check to which the Arab was subjected.

Pro-Arab websites such as Electronic Intifada have gone on emergency alert to control the damage that Johansson has inadvertently caused the BDS campaign.

It accused SodaStream of distributing a pack of “lies” in a video posted in December 2012, in which he refers to Palestinian Authority Arabs and states, “We give them an opportunity to not only have a job and health insurance, but also social benefits and a very high pay scale which they could never achieve in the West Bank.” The video points out their pay is “often four or five times what they’d earn elsewhere.”

Electronic Intifada charged that the video is “clearly part of SodaStream’s public relations campaign” to fight the Boycott SodaStream movement.

It quoted one worker, identified only by an initial, as saying that “we Palestinian workers in this factory always feel like we are enslaved.”

Enter Johansson. She has a SodaStream machine in her home. She likes the stuff, so she agreed to sign a multi-million dollar contract to be the company’s ambassador for five years.

The Hollywood bombshell has steadfastly remained silent since she signed up and the leftists screamed “foul.” The whole issue is so ridiculous that silence is the right answer, but the anti-Israel crowd won’t shut up. The more they cry and scream, the more damage the better off for Israel because they look ridiculous.

The Dubai-based Al Arabiya posted an article Thursday that led off with the common sense fact that “the boycott of SodaStream, which has cost the firm losses in the past year, has raised questions over whether Palestinians employed at the Israel-based factory are feeling the pinch.”

“We reject any suggestion that the reality that Palestinians are sometimes left with no choice but to work in illegal Israeli settlements is a reason not to take action to end international complicity in human rights violations,” a BDS spokesperson told Al Arabiya.

What really ticks off BDS is that Johansson had the nerve to sign up for a product she likes without checking in with the Boycott Israel movement for permission.

“It was very surprising that Scarlett Johansson has decided to become the new face of Israeli apartheid, especially given that she is also an Oxfam ambassador,” said the BDS spokesperson. “We’re sure she’ll soon realize that there’s nothing green about Israeli apartheid.”

The bubble over Johansson and SodaStream just get  worse for the BDS crowd. They are letting everyone know they don’t have a leg to stand on.

Scarlett Johansson Is SodaStream Super Bowl Star (Video)

Monday, January 13th, 2014

The Israel-based SodaStream is returning to the Super Bowl this with a sure-fire successful commercial starring Scarlett Johansson, billed as the world’s sexiest woman.

SodaStream won more publicity that it figured at last year’s Super Bowl when CBS rejected its scheduled commercial because it showed the environmental advantages of its product for making soda at home while crossing CBS’ red line by making fun of market monsters Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola.

A tamer commercial was broadcast during the Super Bowl, but SodaStream gained no less publicity from CBS’ surrender to the beverage giants.

The commercial and publicity helped out SodaStream all over the map, but this year’s plan is a blockbuster.

Johansson will show off herself and SodaStream in the fourth quarter of the Feb. 2 Super Bowl on Fox TV. Instead of putting down Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola, this year’s commercial is supposed  “to demonstrate how easy it is, how sexy it is, to make your own soda,” Daniel Birnbaum, chief executive at SodaStream International, told The New York Times.

“It’s more of a love story between a brand with a purpose and a passionate user,” he said, explaining that Johansson has been using SodaStream at home for several years.

SodaStream also is known for something else besides its product – it operates a manufacturing plant near Maaleh Adumim, which the Boycott Israel movement considers the dreaded Occupied West Bank.

It has placed SodaStream on its black list, for whatever that is worth. And now that Johansson, who by the way is Jewish even if from a “Multi-cultural family” that celebrated Christmas and Hanukkah, is sipping SodaStream in front of millions of people, let’s see if the boycotters will be intellectually honest.

Will they demand that people not see Johansson’s “Her” movie? Will the ASA folks stop going to see her movies?

Sexiest woman alive or not, Johansson now is SodaStream’s first-ever ambassador, having signed a contract covering several years.

Unknowingly, she might be one of Israel’s best ambassadors for a Jewish presence in Judea, where SodaStream employees both Palestinian Authority and Israel workers with equal rights and conditions.

Maybe Johansson will even visit Israel and the Judean Desert factory one day.

That would really be sexy.

SodaStream Continues Uptick,Take That! BDSM Advocates

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

SodaStream is an Israeli company which has shaken up the soft drink business. Because its competitors are Coke and Pepsi, it has to take its business seriously.  But because it is made in Israel, of course the organized world of Israel haters and those who support them have targeted SodaStream for boycotts and other economic mayhem.

But that is okay, because despite the efforts of the BDSM – anti-Israel economic and political warfare movement of Boycotts of, Divestment from and Sanctions Against Israel – to strangle SodaStream, the company’s profits just keep on growing.

SodaStream machines are sold throughout Europe and now also in America.  You buy a machine, add water to the bottle that comes with it, then add one of the dozens of concentrated syrups and flavorings, add the carbonation and voilá, your very own style soda for much cheaper than store bought, with lower calories, carbs and sodium, and – drumroll please -  it is far healthier for the environment!

The earliest predecessor to SodaStream was launched in 1903.  SodaStream in its current incarnation went public on the NASDAQ stock exchange in 2010. Its marketing emphasizes its environmental friendliness – you use the same bottle each time you make another batch.  Even the gas cyclinders which contain the carbonation are recyclable.

When SodaStream went public it became one of the top performing Initial Public Offerings, starting with $367 million and rising to $1.46 billion within a year. In 2012 its earnings per share grew 57 percent, and its 2013 earnings are expected to grow another 27 percent.  Its earnings are projected to grown another 30 percent over the next 5 years.

The company has been so successful, Samsung will be producing its refrigerators with built-in SodaStream sparkling water dispensers by April 2014.

Okay, SodaStream is another Israeli miracle, so is that why the anti-Israel folks are so angry? Yes, but more specifically they like to complain that SodaStream had factories in the disputed territories.  Oh how awful!  Especially when you find out that those factories employ hundreds of Arabs, both in Judea and Samaria, and also with its 2011 factory in BeerSheva, where many Negev Beduin will be employed.

SodaStream purchased ad space at this year’s Super Bowl, which Israel haters seized upon and vowed to use to showcase their campaign against the Israeli company.

“The new SodaStream publicity blitz has given the U.S. boycott, divestment, sanctions movement a marvelous opportunity to bring our campaigns targeting settlement products to a new, unprecedented level of visibility and success,” Anna Baltzer, an organizer of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. “It’s time to burst SodaStream’s bubble. There’s nothing environmentally friendly about military occupation.”

Guess it was Baltzer and the other BDSMsers whose bubble was burst, as SodaStream’s financial success continues. Even the normally anti-Israel magazine The New Yorker gave SodaStream a thumbs up, and that was after Baltzer’s bawl.

We even pointed that out in a cartoon a few days ago.
