10 PA Police Vehicles Storm into Eastern Jerusalem in Pursuit of Suspects

Wednesday, August 24th, 2016

Early on Monday morning this week, a convoy of eight PA military vehicles and two vehicles with Israeli plates traveled into eastern Jerusalem, which is under Israeli sovereignty, Israel’s Channel 2 News reported Tuesday night. The convoy included about 50 uniformed PA security personnel, members of Unit 101–the shock troop founded by the late Chairman Yasser Arafat, and the PA Preventive Security.

The convoy’s mission was to detain four PA Arabs suspected of murdering two PA policemen a week ago in the Shechem area. The four suspects were able to evade the local security forces and find shelter in heavily Arab eastern Jerusalem. The PA security force pursued them, weapons drawn, inside Israeli territory.

PA forces entered the Jerusalem municipality’s Arab neighborhoods of Ras Shehadeh, Ras Hamis, and the Shuafat refugee camp. The forces received no approval for their actions, nor did they alert Israeli authorities, or attempt to coordinate the chase.

This highly irregular even took place against the background of the sizzling violence in the PA city of Shechem, where confrontations between an estimated 100 gang members and police have resulted in two policemen shot dead, two wanted men beaten to death by police, and a senior militia leader gone rogue being lynched by police in his jail cell.

According to Arab media reports, many of the militias that sprang into existence during the 2000 second Intifada have become criminal gangs and have been fighting PA police over turf in several cities.

2 Suspects Arrested in Hizme Terror Attack, ‘Significant Progress’ Made in Interrogation [video]

Sunday, May 15th, 2016

Israel Police officers from the Binyamin district in Samaria and Shin Bet agents from the Israel Security Agency (ISA) have arrested two Arab suspects in connection with last week’s May 11 terror attack at the Hizme checkpoint.

“Significant progress” has been made in the investigation of the two suspects, according to a statement by the Shin Bet. Other details in the case remain under gag order, the security agency said.

An IDF officer sustained serious head and face wounds when a pipe bomb blew up as he bent down to examine what appeared to be a suspicious item near the entrance to the checkpoint. A total of nine bombs were found after sappers subsequently swept the checkpoint, including the four that exploded at the site. Five were safely defused by the bomb squad.

The Hizme security checkpoint station is located close to the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of Pisgat Ze’ev and the Palestinian Authority Arab village of Hizma.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon visited the wounded IDF officer at his bedside in Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center on Sunday. The officer reportedly communicated with Ya’alon via a writing board because his wounds prevented him from speaking.

“I was excited to visit the officer and meet him and his family, who demonstrate true strength of character,” Ya’alon said. “What’s needed now is time for recovery. There are excellent doctors here and a supportive environment, and I am confident that his willpower and that of his family will help him return to an active, creative life.”

A two-day curfew of the village of Hizma was imposed by IDF forces following the attack, during which time the two suspects were detained.

Belgium Charges Third Suspect in French Terror Plot

Saturday, April 2nd, 2016

Belgian authorities are continuing to find new suspects as they track down operatives in the tightly-woven terrorist network that criss-crosses the European Union.

A third suspect, Y.A., 35., was charged with terrorist activities Saturday in a Belgian court, federal prosecutors said, according to the Belgian Le Soir newspaper.

The suspect was charged along with two others – Abderamane Ameroud, 38, and Rabah M., 34, both Algerian citizens – in connection with an imminent terror plot foiled last week in France.

All three were linked to terror suspect Reda Kriket, 34, who was arrested in a Paris suburb.

French citizen Anis Bahri, 32, is being held in the Netherlands after being arrested in connection with the same alleged plot, according to USA Today. Bahri is currently fighting extradition to France, AFP reported.

Both weapons and explosives were found at Kriket’s apartment, according to Paris prosecutor Francois Molins, who said at the time “no specific target” had been identified.

However, the large amount of weapons and explosives that were found made it clear that an imminent plot involving “extreme violence” was being planned, he said.
