Groups Blast NY Hotel for Offering Hospitality to Iranian President Ahmadinejad

Sunday, September 9th, 2012

A growing rumble of protest against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s upcoming welcome in New York has led activist groups to take aim at the New York hotel the leader regularly inhabits during his US stays.

The Warwick New York is set to provide a luxury suite to Ahmadinejad when he arrives  to address the United Nations this month.  The room will be rented starting September 24.

Yet protest group United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is urging the deluxe hospitality purveyor to refuse Ahmadinejad service – despite the fact that its pleas went unheard last year, when the group made a similar attempt (view the video below for news coverage of last year’s protests).

UANI activist Mark Wallace called the Iranian president’s presence a “true outrage”, and especially decried the US Secret Service and NYPD participation in securing the man who makes frequent public condemnations of the United States and Israel.

UANI is calling for a boycott of The Warwick if the hotel goes through with the week-long accommodation.  Several Jewish organizations, including B’nai Brith and the American Jewish Committee, have also publicly opposed the agreement.
