A Martha Stewart Menorah

A Martha Stewart Menorah

Actor Jeff Goldblum joins Martha Stewart in making a manzanita-branch menorah for Hanukkah.

Possibly the most un-Jewish looking menorah ever – but pretty, nonetheless. Still, so out of left field. It’s like you left the house for a few days and asked your Polish farmer neighbor to make you a menorah. You explained, too: needs eight candles, and a spot for another candle, and make it look Jewish…

Martha said you must use a cutting board. Never use a sharp knife on your table.

It’s one of the first things you learn in the big house.

  1. It’s the thought that counts. Right?

  2. Aaron Levi says:

We as jewish people should be honored that Martha Stewart took the time to craft a menorah .It is not the standard menorah that we are accustomed to but I think it will do the job there aren’t to many tv shows making crafts for jews.so insted of writing what you think is a joke
of a menorah Do some research to find out how
many daytime talk shows are making menorahs
Or even mentioning Hanukkah .the little jab you so cleverly tossed in about the big house was
very unprofessional and downright mean .many people watch this program and I know I will be receiving at least two of them for Hanukkah gifts.I have crafty friends polish by the way .so this will be my Hanukkah gift to you ………..Get another job writing is not your thing Happy Hanukkah.

  3. Jake Perry says:

Not a proper menorah so whats the big deal

  4. For years I have been expressing gratitude that Martha Stewart has not seized hold of our holidays.

  5. Someone needs to tell her that all the candles have to be at the same height. It just goes to show that she doesn't have a single observant Jew anywhere on her staff.

The worsening housing crisis, the worsening Iran crisis and other problems that Israeli politicians can’t seem to solve — and with Knesset elections taking place a mere two years after the previous ones — are causing many Israelis to be cynical about the political process. The voter has a desire to see something different, but will they be disappointed again? Dr. Seth Frantzman, op-ed editor of the Jerusalem Post, joins Yishai in-studio to discuss the state of the Israeli electorate.

How can the most famous man in history also be the most humble? Why are we commanded to remember to destroy the memory of Amalek (Israel’s arch nemesis)? These and other conundrums are the topics of discussion between Rabbi Mike Feuer and Yishai on the segment that gets you ready for Shabbat.

Dr. Ran Baratz — the founding editor of the conservative, Hebrew-language Web magazine MIDA, and the director of the Tikvah Fund’s Political Thought program — joins Yishai in-studio. Baratz analyzes the “new Israeli,” whose identity is formed in a mixed and tolerant religious environment; the rare “new Arab,” who accepts Israel; and PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions and his call to European Jewry to immigrate to Israel. Then, VOI’s Raoul Wootliff joins Yishai to share audio clips from the latest English-language press event, during which Zionist Union party leader Isaac Herzog shared his vision for an alternative to PM Netanyahu.

Someone stole the word Zionism, and Natan wants it back…

VOI political correspondent Raoul Wootliff joins Yishai in-studio to analyze Jewish Home leader Naftali Bennett’s English-language press conference. Then, Israeli Ambassador to the Pacific Islands, Marshall Islands and Micronesia Michael Ronen talks about Israel’s efforts to help that region’s fresh-water shortage. Bamba, the iconic Israeli peanut snack, not only tastes good, but it’s apparently also the reason why Israeli kids have one-tenth the rate of peanut allergies compared to children from the UK and other countries with similar genetic backgrounds (er, Jews). The New England Journal of Medicine reports that keeping young children away from peanuts […]

Makor Rishon/NRG journalist Zvika Klein joins Yishai in-studio to talk about his shocking new video — “Ten Hours Walking as a Jew in Paris.” Klein discusses creating the video and what it teaches about the state of Jews in Europe. Then, Joel Pollak, the editor-in-chief of Breitbart.com, tells Yishai that “the fact that there is a rift between Obama and Israel does not mean there is rift between America and Israel.”
Finally, Yishai defends PM Netanyahu’s right to speak before Congress, and compares the Israeli leader to Queen Esther — using the Bible story as an example of the Jews acting to defend themselves.

Nir Barkat is the mayor of Jerusalem, but Bill de Blasio is the mayor of the city with the largest Jewish community.

It’s Adar. Time for Purim…

Dr. Ronen Bergman, senior military and intelligence affairs analyst for Yedioth Ahronoth, contributing writer for the New York Times and author of five best-selling books — including “The Secret War with Iran” — joins Yishai to discuss the massive blast that killed Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri and 21 others around his motorcade. Listen to the story and controversy! Then, on Spiritual Cafe, Rabbi Mike Feuer joins Yishai to discuss the Biblical blueprint of Tabernacle vestments, the month of Adar, which we just entered — that which symbolizes Jewish victory — and finding God, even when you’re down.

Yishai hosts a special event at the Psagot Winery, to celebrate the rights of the Jewish People to Judea and Samaria, and the support Israel enjoys from friends abroad. Listen to inspiring talks by leading personalities, including Rabbi Avi Gisser, MK Yariv Levine, MK Danny Danon, Danny Dayan and, of course, Governor Mike Huckabee, who jammed with Israeli music icon Yonatan Razel.

Dr. Michael Doran is an American expert on the international politics of the Middle East. His recent article in Mosaic Magazine, “Obama’s Secret Iran Strategy,” has caused a firestorm in the policy world. He joins Yishai to discuss the US president’s attempt at detente with the Iranian regime, and the brouhaha surrounding PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming speech before Congress. Then, Nachman Rosenberg, the former executive vice president of Tzohar joins Yishai in-studio to talk about how Israel’s religious establishment may actually be destroying the Jewish character of the state, to the point that it poses no less of a strategic threat than Iran.
