OBAMA: You know, I’ll let you ask Prime Minister Netanyahu that question if he gives you an interview. I don’t recall a similar example.

President Obama cannot recall a similar example in which a foreign head of government injected himself into an “American” debate. I can. Did Churchill not inject himself into an American foreign policy debate?

Did Churchill not say to a British Chief of Staff in response to a suggestion that perhaps Britain should remain more politic in its relations with the U.S., “That is the way we talked to her while we were wooing her; now that she is in the harem, we talk to her quite differently!”

I think we can think of many examples of foreign heads of governments injecting themselves into American foreign policy debates.

Not to mention, as fellow blogger Mirabelle has rightly pointed out to me, President Obama interfered in an Israeli debate when he sent Jeremy Bird to Israel in an effort to oust Netanyahu from office.

And before that, when he leaked Israeli intel to Iran.

Which begs the question: Is it okay for an American president to inject himself into an Israeli debate?

Or is that pushy and inappropriate, too?
