The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh has established three cells in the Malda, Nadia and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal with 100 full time operatives. These cells are being used to smuggle explosives and weapons into Bangladesh.

Given the ideological and other linkages Bangla Islamist forces have with their counterparts and their possible implications on the world, all civilized nations, liberal democracies in particular, must extend every possible support to Dacca in its fight against the evil. New Delhi must rush to Dacca and fight together . The big plan of the Islamist militants holed in India and Bangladesh is said to be establishing a Greater Bangladesh merging Bangladesh with India’s West Bengal. They are said to linked with terror groups , including al Qaeda and the Islamic State. It is just as a first step that they have set up modules in West Bengal, Meghalaya and Assam. They plan to create several mini Bangladeshs’ and then move towards merging all together.

In September 2008 India and Bangladesh had agreed to strengthen efforts to curb cross-border terrorism . They condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reaffirmed their commitment not to allow their territory to be used for any activity inimical to each other’s interests. The Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) had an agreement on joint patrolling to curb trans-border terrorism . New Delhi and Dhaka also agreed to take action against militants and insurgent outfits, smuggling of arms, ammunition, explosives and fake currency . Bangladesh sought India’s cooperation in taking preventive measures against ‘anti-Bangladesh outfits’ based in India.

New Delhi and Dacca could be genuinely serious about implementing all such agreements . Their intelligence agencies and the border forces could coordinate better and act tougher to curb their common threat in the region.
