In my remarks, I went on to explain that purchasing the honor of placing a mezuzah on the synagogue’s main entrance would provide one with an unusual merit since people in untold numbers will kiss this mezuzah day in day out. Indeed, the honor brought in a tidy sum to the shul’s coffers.

The individual who bid for the honor received merit both according to the magnitude of a single action as well as according to the preponderance of the number of the many actions that followed.
