The shootings took place in a classroom on the campus. Authorities were notified at 10:38 a.m. local time that there was an active shooting and emergency personnel began arriving shortly thereafter.

According to some reports, the shooter asked people in the classroom whether they were Christian. If the answer was yes, they were shot in the head. If they didn’t answer or said no, they were shot in the legs.

Sheriff John Hanlin of Douglas County, where Roseburg is located, informed the public that the shooter was a 20 year-old male who engaged in gunfire with police and was “neutralized.”

Roseburg is located approximately 180 miles south of Portland, Oregon.

UPDATE: A message posted on the Umpqua Community College site announced that the school is officially closed until Monday, Oct. 5. All classes and events have been cancelled until then.
