Arab rioters clash with Israeli Border Guard police in a Jerusalem neighborhood, July 2, 2014

Arabs hurled rocks and shot off fireworks at Israel Police in Jerusalem this afternoon (Monday, Nov. 3).

District police used standard riot dispersal methods to control the mob, including firing tear gas canisters.

Arab attackers also hurled rocks at a minibus passing near the Mount of Olives, in a separate incident.

The windshield of the vehicle was smashed but none of the passengers were physically injured.

Israeli security forces immediately began searching the area to hunt down the perpetrators.

When and if the attackers are caught, they may be punished with up to 20 years in prison due to a newly-stiffened penalty whose severity was harshened by the government cabinet this week.

Both attacks involved dozens of Arabs and took place in areas of Jerusalem that were restored to the capital in 1967 during the Six Day War.

Earlier in the day, police arrested three Arab residents of the Jerusalem A-Tur neighborhood. The suspects were taken into custody and charged in connection with last month’s destruction of tombstones at the Mount of Olives cemetery.
