GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump announced early Thursday that he has decided to postpone his trip to Israel, set for later this month.

Trump said he would reschedule his meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — originally set for December 28 — “at a later date, after I become president of the United States.”

A number of Opposition Knesset members and at least one coalition MKs signed a letter Wednesday demanding that Netanyahu cancel the meeting, which was scheduled prior to Trump’s controversial remarks.

Coalition and Opposition MKs Petition to Ban Trump from Israel

The candidate turned the world upside on Monday when he announced his recommendation that Muslim entry to the United States be temporarily suspended until “we figure out what the hell is going on.”

Netanyahu’s office issued a statement rejecting Trump’s “recent remarks about Muslims.”

“The State of Israel respects all religions and strictly guarantees the rights of all its citizens,” the prime minister’s office was careful to point out. “At the same time, Israel is fighting against militant Islam that targets Muslims, Christians and Jews alike and threatens the entire world.
