Gaza’s Hamas terrorist rulers are calling for an “uprising” against the Palestinian Authority.

Deputies called on Wednesday for a “revolt” against the PA in response to sweeping arrests by PA security of Hamas members in Judea and Samaria.

The PA is the legal representative of Gazans in the United Nations as citizens of an independent sovereign nation called ‘Palestine.’

The PA’s leading Fatah faction, however, has now demanded that Gaza hand over its autonomous leadership of the enclave.

Local Fatah leader Azzam al-Ahmad told the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency on Sunday that Hamas has “foiled” efforts towards a unity government with Judea and Samaria.

As a condition for forming the new unity government, Hamas must hand over rule over Gaza, he said.

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri accused Ahmad of creating tension, saying his claim was “untrue.” He blamed the failure to form a unity government on Fatah “factionalism,” labeling Fatah calls for reform “a media maneuver.” Abu Zuhri said Hamas was willing to form the government based on national consensus.

Last month the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) – also headed by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas – appointed a committee to lead new talks for reforming the unity government.

This is not new. Abbas has repeated that move countless times since Hamas expelled Fatah / PA security forces after a week of lethal clashes between militias of the two factions.

Hamas was elected in a landslide to lead the government in the PA’s first democratic parliamentary election in 2006.

The two factions have never yet managed to work together to form any unity government for any length of time. Mahmoud Abbas has never safely managed to stay in Gaza for more than 24 hours since 2006. Hamas de facto Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has never safely managed to enter Judea or Samaria since 2006.

And yet the United Nations has recognized the PA-controlled areas in all three regions, governed separately by hostile governments with two budgets and two sets of “ministers,” as a single independent “sovereign nation, Palestine.”
