The Israel Defense Forces have announced they will begin the week on Sunday will military exercises in the Mediterranean coastal city of Ashkelon and surrounds.

Residents in the area can expect to see the movement of security vehicles as well as military aircraft and combat helicopters, the IDF said.

The exercise, ordered by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi when he entered office, involves the entire Gaza Division and is aimed at enhancing the preparedness of the military forces for combat in Gaza. The drill was “preplanned as part of the training schedule for 2019,” the IDF statement emphasized.

The exercise is expected to continue until Wednesday the IDF said.
