Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has declined to accept the resignation of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“Any interpretation and analysis revolving around the reasons behind the resignation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, except for what he has posted on his Instagram account, are incorrect,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

“As the chief of staff of the Iranian president said today, the resignation has not been accepted,” he added, according to a report by Iran’s official Press TV.

Zarif announced his resignation on his personal Instagram account late Monday, but did not explain the reasons behind his decision.
