Israel’s Health Ministry has issued an official warning to the public that a measles carrier may have infected people aboard an Israel Railways train as they were traveling to and from Ashkelon on Tuesday.

The exposure to the measles virus took place on the train starting from Ashkelon departing at 07:29 am and returning to Ashkelon at 4 pm (16:00) local time.

Those who believe they may have been exposed to the measles virus on the train, especially those born after 1957 and who did not receive two shots – are being asked to please visit a health clinic immediately in order to receive a vaccination against measles.

The virus has proved to be exceptionally dangerous for those who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons: several have died from measles this year, including an 18-month-old toddler and an 82-year-old woman — both in Jerusalem.
