Israel Police special forces unit seals off the home of a terrorist with concrete in a Jerusalem neighborhood. It's not as simple a process as it might seem. (archive)

The home of terrorist Fadi al-Qanbar was sealed in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukabar on Wednesday despite legal efforts by the killer’s’s family to prevent authorities from carrying out the order.

Al-Qanbar murdered four young IDF soldiers and wounded 15 others in a vehicle ramming attack two months ago near the promenade in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Armon Hanatziv.

The procedure, which involves pouring concrete inside the house and completely sealing off all windows and doors, was witnessed by the family of one of the four IDF soldiers he murdered. Al-Qanbar’s father and brother were held by police for several hours ahead of the operation, according to Ynet, in order to ensure they wouldn’t interfere with the process.

The family of one of al-Qanbar’s victims, 22-year-old Lt. Shir Hajaj battled against the al-Qanbar family when they petitioned the High Court of Justice for a stay of execution against the order.

In an unusual request, the Hajaj family requested to personally witness the two-day operation — a request granted by Jerusalem District Police Commander Yoram HaLevy, who together with other police officers attended the operation and supported the family through the process. HaLevy met with all four of the families of the murder victims to update them on the investigation and on police activities in Jabel Mukabar.
