Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked

In the first interview granted by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked since the evacuation of Amona, the lawmaker told journalist Rina Matzliach on Channel 2’s “Meet The Press,” that the government didn’t mislead the residents of the town.

“We made every effort… “ she said, but added, “The decision of the court had to be carried out.

“We did everything in our power to create an alternative for the residents of Amona,” she said, adding that the youths who were in the synagogue and with whom forces clashed towards the end of the evacuation, were not local to the town.

“Now we must build a new town as we have promised, as fast as we can.

Following Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit’s statement that he cannot defend the Settlement (Regulation) Law, Minister Shaked told “Meet the Press” the government has another solution in mind.

“The country will take a private lawyer and the legal adviser of the Knesset, [Eyal Yanon,] will help him defend it [in the Supreme Court, which may say the law contravenes international law.]”

With regard to talks with the Palestinian Authority, Jerusalem, building in the territories and a host of other issues, the minister said, “The Trump Administration is waiting to hear what we want.

“We need to decide what we want, and to tell the Americans.“
