At least one person was killed and several others wounded, including two in grave condition after an unidentified attacker stabbed people in the Paris opera district, a tourist area in the 2nd arrondissement, according to French television station BFM. The site is about ten minutes away from the Paris Opera House, known as the Palais Garnier.

The attacker was neutralized by Paris police, and is dead. The motive for the attack was unclear, authorities said. French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb praised the police response. “My first thoughts are for the victims in this odious attack,” Collomb said in a statement via Twitter.
