Iran’s flagship airline, IranAir, announced Sunday that it has signed a $16.6 billion deal with Boeing, according to the IRNA state news agency.

The 10-year contract includes the purchase of 50 Boeing 737 aircraft and 30 777 aircraft, according to IranAir chairman Farhad Parvaresh, who was quoted by IRNA.

It’s the biggest U.S.-Iran transaction to be approved by the American government since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Boeing regional director Fletcher Barkdull was in Tehran for the signing ceremony, according to the IRNA report, quoted by Reuters.

However, last month the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would block the sale of commercial aircraft to Iran, and which would bar the U.S. Treasury from issuing licenses needed by U.S. banks in order to finance the sales of commercial aircraft.
