Crocodile farm in the Jordan Valley

(Jordan Valley) – Searches are underway for a crocodile that may have escaped from a semi-deserted Jordan Valley crocodile farm, according to a Tazpit report.

Residents of Yafit reported seeing a crocodile crawling around. In 2011, dozens of crocodiles escaped from the nearby farm.

But IDF trackers haven’t found any holes in the Moshav Fatzael crocodile farm’s fence.

The farm is in a strange predicament.

It had very few tourist visitors, so it couldn’t make money that way. A few years ago, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority decided that the farm couldn’t sell crocodile skins as they’re considered protected animals.

So the abandoned farm is left with one worker remains to feed the crocodiles.

The Jordan Valley municipality got the smaller crocodiles evacuates, but the big ones are still there laying eggs, and as the eggs hatch, they are transferred to a farm in the Arava.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of crocodiles roaming around freely inside the farm – perhaps one escaped through the bathroom’s sewer pipes.
