Smoke rises following an Israeli air strike on February 27, 2017. Israeli aircraft hit Hamas targets in Gaza after a rocket fired by Gaza terrorists hit southern Israel.

Israeli fighter pilots carried out an air strike Wednesday night on a Hamas military base in northern Gaza, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

Unconfirmed Arab media reports said that one person was killed and a number of others were injured in the attack, which targeted a Hamas base south of Gaza City.

“The IDF views the Hamas terrorist organization as responsible for all incidents that take place in the Strip or coming from it and will not allow a terrorist group to turn the border area to into a combat zone,” the IDF said in a statement.

Three Red Alert incoming rocket sirens were triggered within a minute or two after the air strike, which came in retaliation for an improvised explosive device (IED) that detonated earlier Wednesday next to military engineering vehicles patrolling the security fence on the Gaza-Israel border.

There were no injuries or property damage to Israeli forces reported.
