Gazans swarm in attempt to break through security fence while creating a diversion along border with Israel, driven by Hamas, April 6 2018

IDF Southern Command General Eyal Zamir met with the heads of Gaza Belt communities on Sunday evening to discuss the rising tensions on the border in advance of ‘Nakba Day’ and the transfer of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

“The IDF is deployed and with reinforcements,” Zamir told the community leaders.

“You can be calm. The IDF will do whatever it takes to prevent infiltration through the security fence,” he said. “The border events are not expected to spill over into any Jewish communities; there is no need to prepare for rocket fire.”

But the IDF has been releasing videos with a slightly different message. In those videos, the IDF says Hamas has been escalating events along the border, with the goal of overrunning the border this week and massacring the Jewish resident in the Israeli border communities.

In those videos, the IDF says they will not let Hamas succeed in that goal, at will prevent it at any cost.

As part of their toolkit to prevent the border from being overrun, the “Super Tanker” – the most powerful high pressure water cannon in the Middle East – has arrived at the site from a security facility in the north to be used, if necessary, to force Gazans away from the border fence. It has been described as a “water cannon on steroids.”
