The Crossings Authority security checkers at the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, together with Shabak investigators, recently stopped an attempt to smuggle flying drones into Gaza, most likely for use by terrorist elements there, Israel’s Defense Minster’s spokesperson’s office revealed on Sunday. The shipment was found on an Israeli truck that was carrying toys for Gazan children.

Further examination of the shipment revealed an attempt to smuggle several drones of various sizes and specialties equipped with quality cameras and intended for collecting intelligence on IDF forces stationed near the Strip.

Over the past few weeks Shabak has foiled several similar smuggling attempts of drones to the Gaza Strip. All the shipment were seized.

The capture of the drones was part of an overall effort of the combined task force with elements from Shabak, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the Customs Authority, Israel Police, and the Ministry of Defense Crossings Authority. Investigation continues to identify and locate the smuggling infrastructure behind these attempt.
