The State Department called on Iran to fulfill its stated promise to help the United States determine the fate of American citizen Robert Levinson, who has been missing for the past decade.

Five American hostages — including a Christian pastor and Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian — were returned to the United States by Iran in January 2016, in exchange for seven Iranian prisoners. But the sixth American who should have been with the rest of the hostages, 69-year-old Robert Levinson, was not among them and Iranian government officials denied knowing his whereabouts.

Levinson disappeared after being captured during an unauthorized CIA mission in March 2007 off Kish Island, in Iran.

“Today marks the ten-year anniversary of Robert Levinson’s disappearance from Kish Island, Iran,” the statement read. “The United States remains unwavering in our commitment to bring him home.

“Over the last decade his family has suffered from his absence, and our hearts go out to them on this and every day. We will not rest until the Levinson family is whole again.

“Iran committed to cooperating with the United States to assist us in bringing Robert Levinson home and we call on Iran fulfill this commitment.

“The FBI has offered a $5 million reward for any information that could lead to his safe return. We call on anyone with information about this case to contact the FBI at http://tips.fbi.gov or email the FBI at [email protected]. Information will be kept confidential and can be provided anonymously.”
