Vehicle hit by Gaza rocket, May 5 2019

A 21-year-old man is in critical condition in Ashdod, after his vehicle was hit Sunday evening, struck directly by a rocket fired from Gaza. The victim was struck in the chest by shrapnel from the rocket.

The port city of Ashdod was battered by a barrage of more than 30 missiles fired shortly after 7 pm Sunday evening by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations in Gaza.

A second person was also wounded in the rocket barrage that was fired at Ashdod on Sunday evening.

“Most of the rockets were intercepted by Iron Dome, but unfortunately there were also rocket hits in which a resident of the city was killed, and we have a number of wounded and property damage,” said a letter by the mayor of Ashdod, Dr. Yechiel Lasry, that was sent to residents via Whatsapp text by the municipality. “We share our condolences to the family and send our condolences on behalf of the residents, and wish the wounded a speedy recovery.

“I want to ask you again: Please take care of yourself,” the mayor wrote. “The [Home Front Command] guidelines are a life-saving protection. Explain to everyone in the family that Iron Dome does not guarantee full protection, but iron discipline saves lives.

We support the IDF soldiers, and Iron Dome soldiers who do a great job.”
