At least three rockets were launched from Gaza at 9 pm Sunday night in an attack on southern Israel, including one that landed in an open field in the Shaar HaNegev Regional Council district, igniting a fire. “Three launches from the Gaza Strip were identified as aimed at Israeli territory,” the IDF said. A live camera feed also caught shrapnel from a projectile striking a building.

The Iron Dome anti-missile defense system intercepted two of the rockets, directly over a concert about to be held in the southern Israeli city of Sderot, less than a mile from the Gaza border. Panicked concert goers searched for a bomb shelter.

“Rocket just landed in a field in Sderot near a large concert that was about to begin,” wrote a JewishPress.com reader. “My daughter was there. Smoke everywhere. Concert canceled.”

Just a few seconds prior, the Red Alert incoming rocket alert siren had activated in a number of southern Israeli towns near the Gaza border, including the city of Sderot and around Sapir College, located on the outskirts of the city. The alert siren also activated in the communities of Ibim, Or HaNer, Nir Am, Erez, and Gevim.

Paramedics from the Magen David Adom emergency medical response service treated a woman in her thirties for injuries she sustained during a fall while running to a bomb shelter, in addition to six others who were suffering from traumatic anxiety.

Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon subsequently reported that five victims were treated for traumatic anxiety in addition to seven physically wounded, who were listed in good to fair condition — including a baby, a 3-year-old boy and five adults.

An apartment building under construction in Sderot was hit by shrapnel from the Iron Dome interception, which was caught on camera. The building was not inhabited.

IDF Gaza Division Brigadier-General Eliezer Toledano arrived in Sderot during the evening to meet with Mayor Alon Davidi following the attack.
