Israel saluted the U.S. Armed Forces on Monday as America marked Memorial Day, just a month after the Jewish State paid tribute to its own fallen military heroes. Numerous tweets from the Jewish State offered praise and honor to America’s service members and support to the families of those who didn’t make it home to see their children grow up, or their loved ones blossom into the future.

It was a rather soggy day, at least in the Eastern part of the country, but nevertheless hundreds attended a ceremony on the deck of the USS Intrepid, an official Sea, Air and Space Museum on the West Side of New York City. A 100-foot American flag was unfurled and four ceremonial wreaths were presented at the ceremony, which coincides with New York’s “Fleet Week” in which more than 2,000 U.S. Navy service members are in the city to meet residents.

President Donald Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery to pay tribute to those who fell in battle or while otherwise protecting the nation.

First Lady Melania Trump, recovering from recent surgery, tweeted her tribute, as did many others.

“For the families of our fallen heroes, every day is Memorial Day,” tweeted Vice President Mike Pence. “Thank you to these courageous families and to all the families across America who lost loved ones serving in our Armed Forces. We are with you. America honors our fallen heroes and all of you this #Memorial Day.”

As in Israel, Memorial Day in the United States is observed to pay tribute to those “who made the ultimate sacrifice” in the country’s national service.

Many different branches of Israeli government and especially its military made sure to offer their respects to their American counterparts on this day, beginning with Israel’s Defense Forces.

“On this Memorial Day, #Israel bows their heads with you,” wrote the NO2BDS nonprofit organization. “Not only do we know what it’s like to lose heroes, we recognize the justice the U.S. stands and fights for. The sacrifices of your soldiers was also for our benefit. We thank you.”

“Israel salutes the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces for everything they have done and continue to do to defend freedom around the world,” said Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, in a statement posted to Twitter.
