Both are Democrats.

Booker announced Sunday night that he first felt symptoms on Saturday and tested positive on Sunday. “Fortunately, my symptoms have been relatively mild,” he said in a statement.

“I’m beyond grateful to have received two doses of vaccine and more recently, a booster – I’m certain that without them I would be doing much worse.

“I encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated and boosted,” he added.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, 72, also announced this weekend that she had tested positive for the virus.

“I regularly test for COVID & while I tested negative earlier this week, today I tested positive with a breakthrough case,” she wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

“Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild symptoms & am grateful for the protection provided against serious illness that comes from being vaccinated & boosted.”

Both senators had joined others on Friday in leaving the Capitol for winter recess.

This Cable News Network (CNN) announced it was closing its offices to nonessential personnel, due to the rising number of cases of the virus.

“We are doing this out of an abundance of caution,” CNN President Jeff Zucker wrote in a memo to employees that was released to Reuters. “And it will also protect those who will be in the office by minimizing the number of people who are there.”
