“We went forward, because there was no going back, walking on a road that we’d driven along so many times. What would be? Where would we sleep? Where would we stop? We didn’t know. After many hours of walking we stopped at the Yad Mordechai junction. We were exhausted, hungry, and thirsty. Good people embraced us, tried to comfort us and offered us hot soup, evoking memories of our distant homes. One night turned into days, weeks, months, and we remained in that ‘tent city’ for nearly a year. We had a field kitchen, showers, synagogue, nursery school, cafeteria and one generator that worked non-stop.”

What do you see when you look back?

“We survived Pharoah, we crossed the Red Sea… we wandered in tents, and among apartments and houses. We still feel in exile, far from our community friends. We wait for redemption; the move to the permanent community and reuniting with our community.”

What do you see when you look forward?

“Growth and building… we’ve waited 7 years for this long-desired moment: permission to build. Building a new house means looking inwards, strengthening your frame and enveloping it with joy, faith, optimism, health and a true feeling of freedom.”

May next Pesach see everyone in their newly built homes!
