A select group of Jewish leaders from various segments of the Jewish community recently gathered in Los Angeles to hear from visiting U.S. Sen. James E. Risch (R-ID).

Risch, a staunch and vocal supporter of the U.S.-Israel strategic relationship, has been named the “Senate’s most conservative member” by the National Journal and is known by his colleagues for his pragmatic decision-making abilities. His peers refer to him as a no-nonsense, get-the-job-done leader.

The Republican lawmaker briefed the politically bipartisan leaders on issues relating to the overall U.S. economy; the national debt; energy independence; the situations in Iran, Syria, Egypt and Israel (along with the rest of the Middle East); and other important subjects of interest to the Jewish community.

Risch, a former Idaho governor, is a freshman legislator and serves on five Senate committees: Energy and Natural Resources; Foreign Relations; Intelligence; Ethics; and Small Business and Entrepreneurship, where he is the ranking member.
