Their silence is as loud as the Iranian missiles falling upon the cities of Israel. Where are all the heads of major American Jewish organizations? Where are all the Rabbis? Where are all the shul presidents, the op-eders, the American Jewish activists? Their silence is as deafening as the sirens sounding throughout the Jewish Homeland? Why aren’t they demonstrating in Washington? Why isn’t their voice sounded all over American TV?
Are they hiding under their beds? Are they afraid of drawing attention to themselves? What is happening?
Yesterday, the Birthright organization proudly announced that they had evacuated to Cyprus on a luxury cruise ship some 2000 strong and healthy college-age Birthright participants who were touring Israel. Instead of remaining here to volunteer on Israel’s beleaguered home front, to help mother’s with young children whose fathers are once again in miluim, to help on moshavim, to assist in hospitals and army bases, these strong young Jewish Americans were whisked out of the country to be speeded “home” to their worried mommies and daddies. Can there be a greater busha than this?!
It is painful to say that, yes, the “grasshopper syndrome” of the Spies of the Wilderness is still with us today. But we, the Jews of the Jewish Homeland will stand in the breach like Joshua and Caleb in defending our Land and the honor of Hashem. Whether or not the Jews of America arise to the challenge, we will conquer the enemy with the help of Hashem so that all the world may know that there is a King in Israel – the Holy One Blessed Be He.
