My chevrutah nodded. “My mother is going to the grocery store today”, she said, “How do I know she won’t be shot? My father is going to work, how do I know he will come back unharmed? Are we supposed to just stay home? How do we fight back? There is nothing we can do. There is no hope. Our country is too righteous to protect its own people. We are like a poor man who gives away all his money to charity, very moral but also very hungry.”

The Jewish people are starving.
