And while the California Supreme Court insisted that same-sex marriages would not “diminish any other person’s constitutional rights” or “impinge upon the religious freedom of any religious organization, official or any other person,” the reality does not reflect these statements.

Even if the court does hold true to its promise, it must be made to understand that its willingness to lend legal credence to homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle serves to greatly undermine the basic teachings of religious groups throughout the country.

Same-sex marriage is not merely another offensive item in the American cultural landscape. Rather, it threatens the very core of our value system by which we make sense of our world and our place within it. As such, there can be absolutely no room for compromise in this area.

Let us hope the ongoing efforts of community leaders and activists will ensure that same-sex marriage remains permanently in the realm of moral opprobrium.
