Although Bnei Yisrael were aware that Moshe had dedicated his life to helping them, Moshe was concerned that they might not realize that his every step was motivated by his intense love for them. Therefore, he felt it necessary to ensure that they knew his love for them was without boundaries. The last communication they would hear from him would be a blessing saturated with love.

Even at the very end, a leader can still make a difference in the lives of his or her people. Moshe did not spend his last few minutes walking around the Israelite camp saying goodbyes. Rather, he spent his last few minutes solidifying his life’s work. It is only fitting that on the holiday of Simchat Torah where we read about Moshe’s passing we immediately begin the Torah cycle again. What better testament can there be to the fact that Moshe’s mission succeeded?
