The Young Israel of Bal Harbor, located at 9592 Harding Avenue in Surfside, will present an incredible Scholar in Residence Weekend with internationally acclaimed scholar, historian and speaker Rabbi Berel Wein on February 1 -2, Shabbos Yisro.

The Shabbaton will begin on Friday evening. Minchah/Kabbalas Shabbos services at 5:50 p.m. will feature a lecture by Rabbi Wein on “The Islamic World and the State of Israel.” A sumptuous dinner will be held at Solimar North, 9595 Colllins Avenue.

Shabbos morning Shacharis services on February 2 will begin at 9 a.m. The rabbi will give a drasha at 10:30 on “Jewish Society: Is it Disunity or Diversity?” Kiddush will be served.

Minchah at 4:45 p.m. will be followed by a lavish seudah shlishis. Rabbi Wein’s speech will be “19th Century Issues: Still Alive in the 21st Century.”

On Motzaei Shabbos at 8:30 Rabbi Wein will introduce his new film, “The Miracle of Israel,” at the synagogue. A question and answer session with the audience will follow.

Rabbi Wein is the founder and director of The Destiny Foundation. He has been identified with the popularization of Jewish history through his more than 1,000 lectures on CD and now MP3 format. He is the author of ten books, all of which have received popular and critical acclaim, as have his seminars, educational tours and, most recently, dramatic and documentary films.

Rabbi Wein founded and was rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Shaarei Torah in New York for over 20 years.

Rabbi Wein received the Torah Prize Award from Machon Harav Frank in Jerusalem for his achievements in teaching Torah and spreading Judaism.
