Tu B’Av, the 15th of Av, has been called one of the greatest days on the Jewish calendar. In ancient times, it was a day of joy and unity, when the young women of Jerusalem would go out and dance in the vineyards, and the young men would seek out their future wives. The Talmud ranks it alongside Yom Kippur in spiritual significance.
But Tu B’Av isn’t just a day of love — it’s also the last halachically optimal time to plant certain fruit trees in Israel before the new year begins. That means trees planted before Tu B’Av can take root in time to count as the first year toward orlah. This small window allows farmers to “save” nearly a full year’s worth of work and expenses on water, weeding, and fertilizer.
This year, the urgency is even greater!
Every single day, we are getting calls from farmers and communities all over Israel — from the Judean Hills to the Shomron, from Gaza border towns to the Jordan Valley — asking us to help them plant. In places like Efrat, Elazar, Bat Ayin, Tekoa, Shilo, Achya, Kochav Hashachar, Kedumim, Itamar, Elon Moreh, Bnei Netzarim, Neta, Shuva, Shokeda, Tkuma the Jordan Valley, and dozens more. Families and communities are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work, but they need help getting the trees in the ground — and they need it now!
Without planting, these areas are at risk — not just economically, but politically and physically. In many parts of Israel, unplanted land is vulnerable to being squatted on and stolen by others illegally! If that happens the land is lost! But a planted field, orchard, or vineyard sets facts of the ground — it sends a message: Am Yisrael is here to STAY!
By supporting these farmers and communities, you’re not just planting a tree, you’re strengthening Jewish presence, helping secure the land, and taking part in the mitzvah of מצוות התלויות בארץ — the special mitzvot that can only be fulfilled in Eretz Yisrael.
The farmers and communities are doing their part — even under the threat of terror and daily danger.
They’ll plant. They’ll protect.
All they need is for you to partner with them.
