UPDATED: Hamas Psych Ops Emails

Monday, November 19th, 2012

You may have gotten an email from “Moshe Rooter” in the past day. If you did, then congratulations, Hamas or one of their affiliate terrorist organizations has decided to reach out to you.

The email links to a series of videos.

The first two are of a jeep blowing up. Presumably this is the jeep that was hit by the anti-tank missile just before Operation Amud Anan began, when 4 IDF soldiers were injured by Gazan terrorists.

The third video claims to show an Israeli drone that was shot down during Operation Amud Anan. A military expert who viewed the video tells us that claim is very unlikely based on what can be seen in the video.

The writing in the email and the video is in Hebrew, and from the text body, it’s clear the sender wants you to believe that the sender is an Israeli (he writes “our soldiers”).

But when you watch the video, the sharp-eyed viewer will immediately realize the translator mixed up the letters B and P, a common mistake among Arabs who can’t pronounce the “P” sound (as in Palestine). Both letters sound the same to Arab ears.

The translator took a stab as to which letter it was, and guessed wrong.

The more interesting question is, how did they get your email?

As near as we’ve been able to figure, they’ve been collecting them from forwarded emails. When someone forwarded your Israel/Jewish related email you sent out, at some point it must have reached one of their operatives and they added it to their list.

The alternative is that they’ve compiled a list of influential Jews, and then found their emails.

We’re flattered, if that’s the case.

UPDATE: They’ve sent out a new email identifying themselves as one of the many splinter terror groups.

Drawing with Rockets

Monday, November 19th, 2012

In years to come, when peace reigns, maybe sky drawing with rockets will become its own art genre. For now, these appear to be the trails of Arab rockets shot at Israel and the Iron Dome rockets that rise to meet them. And together they form a Star of David.

We could try for a crescent moon, I suppose, but it would take many more rockets on either side…

Incidentally, I got this photo from our correspondent Lori Lowenthal Marcus, who tells me she saw it on an IDF re-tweet, so we both hope it’s real. Otherwise it’s just a cheap shot.

Should break some Arab terrorist’s heart, though…

Who Shot First?

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

Hamas has said that the IDF’s killing of one of their top terrorists was a declaration of war.

But who declared war first? The official Hamas Charter, written in August 1988, says:

  1. “Israel exists and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it has obliterated others before it”
  2. “There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals, and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”

Hamas’ charter is itself an official declaration of war, and all who join Hamas are automatically the sworn enemies of Israel. The fact that Israel chooses not to attack Hamas for long periods of time does not in any way absolve Hamas of its guilt of being in a permanent state of war against Israel for the past 24 years. So when its spokesmen try to influence public opinion by accusing Israel of starting a war against it, they are being the worst kind of hypocrites.

Let no one be deceived that the current conflagration was started by this or that attack in 2012; those who founded Hamas declared war on Israel in 1988, and no amount of media hype can change that fact.
